Tips for Traveling With Children
This holiday season, I have travel on my mind! As a family, we are headed to Washington D.C. to spend the holidays with loved ones. As parents, the holidays can be a time where it feels like the only thing your child is getting is a sugar crash and a sleepless night. Sommet Nannies knows how difficult these months can be for families who have to travel during the holidays and we want to help!
Make a list for the kids
And be sure to check it 2 or 20 times! Lists are a helpful way to keep track of what you have and what you need. Be sure that you have everything your little one needs for a good nights sleep i.e. a sound machine, a special pillow, or their favorite lovey.
Make a list for Mom and Dad
Nannies, if you are helping your nanny family pack, be sure to leave a detailed list so mom and dad can review and compare to their list.
Plan travel activities
If you are traveling by car, be sure to bring a bag of goodies that can be presented to restless children during the long drive. A little screen time is also a good option for long travel days. Be sure to download a favorite movie or a new educational game that can keep them busy and occupied.
Check travel and mask information
Be sure to stay up to date with travel safety information based on how and where you are traveling. Some airlines are still requiring little ones to wear masks during flights. Depending on how comfortable your children are with masks, this could take some getting used to. Be sure to talk with your child about what a mask is and why it’s important to keep it on.
Communication is key for successful travel. Traveling is overwhelming for adults, so be empathetic to your child’s stress around it. Preparing them for what’s to come will ensure a smooth experience.
Everyone at Sommet Nannies hopes that, above all, you are able to enjoy your vacation and special time with family and loved ones.
