Turning a Split Schedule into a full-time role

Here at Sommet Nannies, we help families from Washington D.C., Chicago, and Boston find candidates who can support their family. We are always seeing families who need care in the mornings to help their children get off to school and again in the afternoons to pick them up and help with homework, get them settled, and start dinner. As a nanny placement agency, we have found that these split-shift roles are harder to fill than those that provide a solid 35-40 hours per week. Here are some tips for turning those part-time roles into full-time so you can find your dream nanny!

We know that as children grow and begin attending school full-time, the evenings can become overwhelming with coordinating after-school activities, appointments, and getting dinner and homework done. Let alone get dinner on the table at a reasonable hour! It can feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the afternoon to complete all of these tasks without help. While we want the best quality care for our children during these hours, we’ve noticed that split shift positions are less desirable for the most qualified candidates. When we speak to professional families in Boston, Chicago Washington D.C., and New York, we work with them to create a role that is seen as attractive to top candidates. For these families, we recommend adding in some additional household tasks during the day. These tasks will ensure that the candidate has full-time hours and that the home runs smoothly.

Below are some tasks we’ve added to roles to help the family find their ideal nanny.
